Species Diversity of Penicillium in Southwest China with Discovery of Forty-Three New Species

Penicillium
species
are
ubiquitous
in
all
kinds
of
environments,
and
they
industrial,
agricultural
clinical
importance.
In
this
study,
soil
fungal
diversity
Southwestern
China
was
investigated,
that
turned
out
to
be
unexpectedly
high.
The
survey
included
a
total
179
cultures
the
genus
isolated
from
33
samples.
Three-locus
phylogenetic
analyses
morphological
comparisons
were
carried
out.
examinations
revealed
belonged
two
subgenera
(Aspergilloides
Penicillium),
11
sections
(Aspergilloides,
Canescentia,
Citrina,
Exilicaulis,
Fasciculata,
Gracilenta,
Lanata-Divaricata,
Penicillium,
Ramosum,
Robsamsonia,
Sclerotiorum),
25
series,
74
species.
Forty-three
discovered
as
new
science,
Simianshanica,
established
sect.
Aspergilloides.
Additionally,
recorded
for
first
time
China.
Species
isolation
frequency
distribution

discussed.

Penicillium
is
a
large
and
significant
genus
of
fungi,
exhibiting
widespread
distribution
across
diverse
substrates.
Ongoing
taxonomic
nomenclatural
revisions
have
led
to
an
annual
increase
in
the
number
newly
described
species.
This
study
two
new
species,
i.e.,
P.lentum
P.tibetense,
discovered
China.
They
been
identified
characterized
through
morphological
examination

single
gene
multigene
phylogenetic
analyses.
Based
on
these
analyses,

classified
within
section
Brevicompacta,
while
P.tibetense
placed

Waste
accumulation
in
forest
regions

Background
Talaromyces
species
play
an
important
role
in
the
nutrient
cycle
natural
ecosystems,
degradation
of
vegetal
biomass
industries
and
implications
medicine.

diversity

genus
is

far
from

understood.
