Background Asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) overlap (ACO) is a condition characterised by the simultaneous presence of features both asthma and COPD. The study aims to investigate association between ACO frailty among middle-aged elderly populations, identify risk factors for in individuals with ACO. Methods We conducted cross-sectional 34 403 eligible participants (aged ≥40 years) from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey 1999–2018 cycles. Participants were stratified into four groups: ACO, asthma, COPD non-asthma/COPD. Frailty assessment was based on index, generating frail non-frail group. Univariate multivariate survey-weighted logistic regression analysis used determine frailty, Results prevalence 60.2%, significantly higher than that those (32.3%) (40.6%). In unadjusted model, exhibited six-fold odds (OR 6.30, 95% CI 5.29 7.49), which greater 2.84, 2.46 3.28) 1.99, 1.80 2.18), using non-asthma/COPD group as reference. After adjusting all confounders, had over times 4.48, 3.53 5.71), still findings remained robust sensitivity subgroup analyses. Furthermore, hypertension, cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney cognitive disorders identified participants, while income education levels protective factors. Conclusion Patients at regardless age or sex, compared alone. Greater attention should be paid patients their age.

IL-17 is a modulator of the inflammatory response and implicated in lung remodeling both asthma chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Well as probably patients with asthma-COPD overlap (ACO). In this study, we evaluated airways alveolar septa to anti-IL-17 treatment an ACO model. Fifty-six male BALB/c mice were sensitized ovalbumin (OVA group), received porcine pancreatic elastase (PPE or (ACO group). Mice then treated either monoclonal antibody saline. We hyperresponsiveness, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) cell counts, mean diameter. quantified inflammatory, response, extracellular matrix remodeling, oxidative stress markers, signaling pathway markers. Anti-IL-17 group reduced maximum respiratory system Rrs, Ers, Raw, Gtis, when compared (p<0.05). There was reduction total number cells, neutrophils, macrophages BALF attenuated dendritic CD4+, CD8+, FOXP3, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IL-13, IL-17, IL-33 airway septum observed MMP-9, MMP-12, TIMP-1, TGF-β, collagen type I (p < 0.05). also iNOS 8-iso-PGF2α anti-IL-17group Regarding pathways, NF-kB, ROCK-1, ROCK-2 Our results suggest that inhibiting modulates cell-associated cytokine production tissue, through modulation NF-kB FOXP3.

Despite the increasing use of biologics in severe asthma, there is limited research on their asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap (ACO). We compared real-world treatment responses to ACO and asthma. conducted a multicenter, retrospective, cohort study using data from Precision Medicine Intervention Severe Asthma (PRISM). was defined as post-bronchodilator forced expiratory volume 1 s (FEV1)/forced vital capacity (FVC) <0.7 smoking history >10 pack-years. Physicians selected (omalizumab, mepolizumab, reslizumab, benralizumab, dupilumab) based each United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approval criteria. After six-month with biologics, both patients (N = 13) asthma 81) showed positive FEV1 (10.69 ± 17.17 vs. 11.25 12.87 %, P 0.652), Control Test score (3.33 5.47 5.39 5.42, 0.290), oral corticosteroid (-117.50 94.38 -115.06 456.85 mg, 0.688), fractional exhaled nitric oxide levels (-18.62 24.68 -14.66 45.35 ppb, 0.415), sputum eosinophils (-3.40 10.60 -14.48 24.01 0.065), blood (-36.47 517.02 -363.22 1294.59, 0.013), exacerbation frequency (-3.07 4.42 -3.19 5.11, 0.943). The odds ratio for time-to-first no significant difference after full adjustments, subgroup analysis according biologic type also similar results. Biologics response patterns were comparable, suggesting that should be actively considered well.

Abstract Epigenetic analysis is a fundamental part of understanding pathophysiological processes with potential applications in diagnosis, prognosis, and assessment disease susceptibility. changes have been widely studied chronic obstructive pulmonary (COPD), but currently, there no molecular marker used to improve the treatment patients. Furthermore, this progressive risk factor for development more severe COVID-19. Methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (MSP-PCR) plays an important role DNA methylation profiles, it one most techniques. In context, combination MSP-PCR emerging PCR technologies, such as digital (dPCR), results accurate analyses profile genes under study. study, we propose application MSP-dPCR technique evaluate ADAM33 gene from saliva samples lung tissue biopsies patients COPD generated measurable prediction rate, combined technology diagnostic prognostic purposes. Physical measurements of expiratory flow volume and speed can be obtained using spirometry. These have been used for the diagnosis risk assessment chronic obstructive pulmonary disease play a crucial role in delivering early care. However, spirometry is not performed frequently routine clinical practice, thereby hindering detection function impairment. Chest radiographs (CXRs), though acquired frequently, are to measure functional information. This study aimed evaluate whether parameters estimated accurately from single frontal CXR without image findings deep learning.

Balance Score (OBS) composing 16 dietary factors and 4 lifestyle has been developed to evaluate effect oxidants/antioxidants produced by intake habits on overall oxidative balance. However, relationships between OBS with asthma, COPD, asthma-COPD overlap (ACO) are still unclear.
