Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma are common airway diseases, there similarities differences between them. Serum eosinophil (EOS) has potential application value in the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis of COPD asthma. However, clinical serum EOS these two diseases is controversial. In this work, recent research progress on was analyzed, expounded from several aspects, including correlation pathogenesis EOS, as well EOS. The results revealed that important pathogenesis, exhibited a value. further study needed to evaluate threshold, which provided guidance for diagnosis treatment

Rationale: Asthma poses a significant burden for U.S. patients and health systems, yet inpatient care quality is understudied. National chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) readmission policies may affect asthma through hospital responses to these because of imprecise diagnosis identification with COPD asthma. Objectives: Evaluate hospitalized potential collateral effects the Medicare Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRRP). Methods: This was retrospective cohort study aged 18-54 years across 924 hospitals (Premier Healthcare Database). Results: Care evaluated before HRRP implementation (n = 20,820; January 2010-September 2014) after 26,885; October 2014-December 2018) using adherence guidelines (recommended, nonrecommended, "ideal care" [all recommended no nonrecommended care]). Between 2010 2018, at least 80% received annually. Recommended decreased similarly (rate 0.02%/mo) versus (P 0.8). Nonrecommended more rapidly 0.29%/mo) 0.17%/mo; P < 0.001), changes driven largely by antibiotic prescribing. Ideal increased 0.25%/mo) 0.02), improvements. Conclusions: Post-HRRP trends suggest improved rates guideline concordance in ideal care. Although federal (e.g., HRRP) have had positive effects, such as care, parallel efforts, including stewardship, likely contributed

The latest advances in asthma treatment have highlighted the significance of eosinophilia and possible role some pro-eosinophilic mediators, like interleukins (IL) IL-5, IL-4/IL-13, IL-33 disease's pathogenesis. Considering that a subgroup patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may blood akin to seen asthma, numerous studies last decade suggested eosinophilic COPD is separate entity. While exact eosinophils pathophysiology remains unclear, seems increase effectiveness corticosteroid therapy. Currently, monoclonal antibodies targeting (IL-5, IL-4, IL-13, IL-33) or their receptors are being investigated belonging T2-high endotype. This review focuses on mechanisms COPD, effects outcome, examines most recent data use peripheral treating COPD. Finally, we emphasize current implication context airway inflammation.

Little is known about the pathogenesis of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) overlap (ACO). This study examined molecular phenotypes ACO in elderly.A genome-wide investigation gene expression sputum cells from elderly with asthma, ACO, or COPD was performed using set variation analysis (GSVA) predefined asthma- COPD-specific signatures. We then a subsequent cluster enrichment scores (ESs) to identify clusters ACO. Finally, second GSVA conducted curated signatures gain insight into associated identified clusters.Seventy individuals were enrolled (17 41 12 COPD). Two distinct identified. Clinically, 1 (N = 23) characterized by male smoker dominance, more lung function, higher proportions both neutrophil eosinophil induced compared 2 18). had features similar COPD, mitochondria peroxisome dysfunction as important mechanisms these diseases. The differed those enhanced innate immune reactions microorganisms being this form ACO.Recognition unique biological pathways two will deepen our understanding elderly.
