Urban–rural fragmentation represents a significant challenge encountered by nations globally, particularly in both developing and developed contexts, during the modernisation process. This study examines effects of rural land system reform on facilitating integrated development between urban areas. The analysis impact 2010 liberalisation transfer policy employs dual machine learning model, utilising provincial-level data from China spanning 2005 to 2022, address limitations traditional causal inference models while ensuring estimation accuracy. findings indicate that significantly enhances urban–rural development, demographic, economic, ecological dimensions. mechanisms encompass facilitation extensive agricultural service operations, new business entities, migration labour, enhancement capital. Furthermore, notable disparities exist reforms across various regions, concerning integration levels. exhibit marginally diminishing trend. influence varies with economic levels, demonstrating nonlinear relationship, most pronounced observed regions moderate development. Additionally, differ based geographic location. policies central region exhibiting effect, followed north-eastern region, western eastern which shows least effect. provides reference for advancing marketisation factors, improving efficiency resource allocation, regionally multiple layers system.

Exploring the coordinated relationship between urban-rural integration and air quality has significant implications for promoting development, preventing pollution ensuring residents' health. This study takes Yangtze River middle reaches city cluster as a case study, calculates levels of analyzes their coupled coordination driving factors, explores path development. constructs coupling degree model to analyze development level level. We use trend surface method spatial divergence characteristics quality. In addition, we used geographic detector factors affecting degree. (1) The overall showed an upward trend. High-value regions were concentrated in Wuhan, Chang-Zhu-Tan, Nanchang metropolitan areas. (2) Air Quality Index decline, with most improvements observed Changsha, Jiujiang. (3) increased from 0.570 2013 0.794 2021, 0.337 0.591 2021. link deepened over time, two promote each other, making develop towards environmental friendliness. distribution shows "high west low east, high north south" (4) Per capita GDP, non-agricultural employment ratio, circulation media, population urbanization level, fixed asset investment identified core confirms that are gradually changing direction high-quality coordination. However, there great differences among cities, regional imbalance is prominent, driven by multidimensional factors.

Urban–rural integration (URI) is important for achieving rural revitalization and sustainable development. Currently, there a lack of research on URI in prefecture-level cities the Yellow River Basin Urban Agglomerations (YRBUAs), spatial relationship between economic development not clear. This paper evaluates index YRBUA from 2010 to 2022, applies methods such as an exploratory data analysis, variation function, coupling coordination degree, gray correlation analysis explore The study found following: (1) level highest Shandong Peninsula Agglomeration lowest Ningxia Along Agglomeration. rank structure within city cluster dominated by single core. (2) roughly shows distribution characteristics high east low west. (3) are spatially positively correlated. high-value agglomeration areas both mainly distributed Peninsula. (4) degree
