With global urbanization on the rise, China has entered mid-to-late stage, and Cheng-Yu region, as a key economic zone new model in China, faced water environmental issues due to rapid urbanization, while systematic research synergy between its environment governance remains scarce. This study explores spatiotemporal evolution of optimization strategies for coupling coordinated development region. A comprehensive evaluation index system was established measure Urbanization Development System (UDS) Water Environment Governance (WEGS), coordination utilized analyze relationships two systems from 2013 2021. The showed steady upward trend 2021, evolving state severe imbalance high-level coordination. Initially, UDS relatively low, WEGS higher but grew at slower rate. After 2019, caused exceed level WEGS, indicating growing pressures. Moreover, there are persistent disparities among cities. Industrial cities like Chengdu, with high low urgently need enhance resource management. In contrast, such Dazhou, which have UDS, should make full use their resources drive sustainable urban development. For policymakers, this provides practical guidelines, suggesting targeted investment treatment facilities industrial Chengdu promoting water-based Dazhou. It emphasizes importance balancing sustainability. findings not only deepen understanding dynamic interactions also lay solid foundation optimizing future policies region other similar areas.

Yunnan Province, which is located in the mountainous plateau region of China, faces numerous challenges, including population decline rural areas. Achieving coordinated development between transportation and systems crucial for fostering sustainable growth. In this study, we developed a pressure state response (PPSR) model comprehensive transport superiority (TS) that considers influence aviation. We quantified system horizontal across Yunnan’s districts counties period 2013 to 2021, examining their temporal spatial heterogeneity. Using autocorrelation model, also explored trade-offs synergy TS PPSR. The main findings are as follows. (1) From polarization pattern PPSR Province gradually weakened, there were different degrees contraction overall. (2) significantly increased, with aviation conditions having notably positive impact, further strengthening Kunming’s position regional core. (3) Yunnan, relationship significant, collaborative emerging counties, reflecting distinct characteristics degree polarization. This study provides valuable insights integrating urban areas offers new perspective revitalization.
