Chitin and its deacetylated derivative, chitosan, are biopolymers of significant interest due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, wide-ranging applications in biomedical, environmental, industrial fields. The exploitation crustaceans as the traditional source chitosan raises concerns about overfishing ecological sustainability. Modern insect farming, contrast, offers advantages such a circular insect-based economy leading reduced carbon footprint. This review explores potential insect-derived an alternative, emphasizing environmental benefits during production, functional properties, applications. Several aspects key analytical techniques for chitin characterization, including photometric, chromatographic, spectroscopic methods, also discussed. underscores versatility biomedical applications, wound healing drug delivery, well agriculture, packaging, wastewater treatment.

Chitosan, a biopolymer obtained from chitin, is known for its remarkable adsorption abilities dyes, drugs, and fats, diverse array of antibacterial characteristics. This study explores the extraction characterization chitosan mycelium Amanita phalloides . The moisture content, ash water binding capacity, fat degree deacetylation extracted were determined. exhibited high yield 70%, crystallinity 49.07%, 86%, potent antimicrobial properties against both Gram-negative Gram-positive bacteria. also examined capabilities to remove methylene blue (MB) dye by analysing specific factors like pH, reaction time, MB concentration using response surface model. highest removal was 91.6% at pH 6, time around 60 min an initial 16 ppm. experimental design can be applied other organic compounds such as proteins, fats.

Many of the most harmful pollutants contained in wastewaters are hydrophobic compounds. Consequently, selection suitable adsorbents to remove Methylene Blue (MB), adopted as model contaminant, was carried out evaluating two alternative approaches. First, nanocomposites containing biochar were tested exploit interaction between adsorbent and adsorbate. As an approach, a nanocomposite based on chitosan, material substantially hydrophilic though methyl groups, found allow adsorption by both hydrogen-bond interactions. Both biochar- chitosan- inserted magnetic nanoparticles crosslinking impregnation simpler solid/liquid separation. XRD, FTIR SEM analyses elucidated properties nanocomposites, showing fraction be mainly composed maghemite, with crystallite size about 8 mm. The M(H) curves showed pure superparamagnetic behaviour nanoparticles, larger moments comparison chitosan (5.8 × 10−20 Am2 against 3.5 Am2). mechanism MB discussed considering zero-point charges oxidation–reduction system molecules. higher capacity shown lower range concentration (1.57 105 mg/kg) explained taking into account overlapping effects polar Kinetics isotherms modelling suggested multistep process, due different phases constituting nanocomposites. An efficient regeneration procedure developed for chitosan-based nanocomposite, incubation acetic acid/ethanol mixture.

Industrial wastewater containing dyes poses a significant environmental threat due to their persistence and potential toxicity. Adsorption using bio-based materials offers promising sustainable approach for dye removal. This study investigates the effectiveness of adsorbents derived from coconut husk, banana peels, orange peels (pretreated with formaldehyde sulfuric acid) methylene blue (MB) The were characterized SEM FTIR. Batch adsorption experiments conducted evaluate MB removal efficiency under various conditions (pH, dosage, temperature, agitation, contact time). results showed that Freundlich isotherm model best described equilibrium data, indicating favorable multilayer adsorption. Kinetic studies revealed pseudo-first-order reaction an exceptional 99.94%. Notably, R-squared value 0.99992 signifies excellent fit experimental data. These findings demonstrate remarkable wastewater. eco-friendly cost-effective solution remediation in textile dyeing industries, contributing cleaner water resources.

In view of the growing concern over threat antibiotic resistance and bacterial infections, this study evaluated antimicrobial performance characteristics chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofibers incorporated with Methylene Blue (MB). Following fabrication chitosan/PVA loaded different MB concentrations via electrospinning, samples were characterised through Field-emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, leaching tests. Finally, inhibition level was assessed disc diffusion method. Based on results, MB-integrated exhibited a nanoscale morphology, FTIR confirmed presence MB. The findings also established positive correlation between concentration intensity. Furthermore, optimal efficacy against Escherichia coli achieved by chitosan/PVA/MB (5 wt.%) sample 2-min laser exposure, which recorded significant zone 8.65 mm. conclusion, demonstrated potent properties E. , suggesting its potential integration in electrospun for combating infections photodynamic therapy.
