A conceptual review on Bessel beams

Abstract
Over
the
past
36
years
much
research
has
been
carried
out
on
Bessel
beams
(BBs)
owing
to
their
peculiar
properties,
viz
non-diffraction
behavior,
self-healing
nature,
possession
of
well-defined
orbital
angular
momentum
with
helical
wave-front,
and
realization
smallest
central
lobe.
Here,
we
provide
a
detailed
review
BBs
from
inception
recent
developments.
We
outline
fundamental
concepts
involved
in
origin
BB.
The
theoretical
foundation
these
was
described
then
experimental
through
different
techniques
explored.
an
elaborate
discussion
kinds
structured
modes
produced
by
advantages
challenges
that
come
generation
applications
BB
are
discussed
examples.
This
provides
reference
material
for
readers
who
wish

show
that
under
the
appropriate
conditions,
Ince–Gaussian
modes
(IGBs)
of
stable
resonators
display
a
behavior
very
similar
to
Mathieu
beams
(MBs),
exhibiting
nondiffracting
propagation
and
self-healing
properties.

IGB
propagates
in
quasi-nondiffractive
manner
within
same
conical
region
as
any
nondiffractive
beam,
even
when
their
profiles
do
not
match
exactly.

results
indicate
