Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are a promising candidate to replace metal-based additives for polymer reinforcement and functionalization. Specifically, vast interest in CQDs functionalization stems from their cost effectiveness, sustainable organic precursors, non-toxicity. Although several reviews of optical devices based on have been reported, this mini-review covers the non-optical aspects CQD-polymer composites. Applications CQD-modified polymers smart devices, mechanical reinforcement, textile surface-modification methods, membranes, protective coatings, thermal resistance summarized. The synthesis method CQDs, dispersion matrix underlying mechanisms related enhanced performance composites outlined. Unlike nano-reinforcements, self-stabilized offer an extremely high surface area, which significantly alters properties at 1-2% concentration. Finally, comparative analysis recent advances composites, problems, future directions discussed.

Carbon dots (CDs) are nanostructures containing mainly carbon atoms and abundant functional groups. With remarkable adjustable physicochemical properties, CDs have excellent hydrophilicity, photoluminescence (PL), biocompatibility, low toxicity. Although the numerous advantages make a research target for synthesizing advanced materials, some limitations pertinent must be corrected. Rare earth elements (RE) candidates doping CDs, obtaining hybrid materials called RE-CDs to optimize luminescence applicability, quantum yields. Hybrids allow combination of advantageous characteristics both RE, drastically improving their luminous magneto-optical imaging performance opening door practical technological applications. To date, no studies in literature provided in-depth analyses methods used prepare RE-CDs, characterization techniques used, challenges, critical analysis what could improved synthesis by proposing solutions. fill this gap, review initially presents detailed survey RE separately. Subsequently, addressed, as well obtainment, commonly characterizations, recent applications, from analyte detection functionality medical nanodevices. Finally, criticisms suggestions future work also discussed inspire new discoveries about potential derived RE-CDs.

Herein, we present a method for rapid ratiometric fluorescence detection of hypochlorite (ClO–) by carbon quantum dots (CDs). Glutathione (GSH) was utilized as the starting material synthesis CDs through hydrothermal process. A maximum intensity at an emission wavelength 435 nm observed under excitation 335 nm. The inner filter effect (IFE) curcumin (CCM) on could be to reduce nm, while peak emerged 540 ClO– rapidly oxidize CCM due its oxidizing properties, which weakened IFE, leading decrease in is restored. In addition, exhibited excellent selectivity and sensitivity ClO–, substantial established within concentration range 1–1500 μM with limit 36.54 nM. spiked recovery tests tap water, swimming pool milk samples showed feasibility using real samples.
