Antibiotic resistance has become one of the most serious threats to human health in recent years. In response increasing microbial antibiotics currently available, it is imperative develop new or explore approaches combat antibiotic resistance. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have shown considerable promise this regard, as microbes low no against them. The discovery and development AMPs still confront numerous obstacles such finding a target, developing assays, identifying hits leads, which are time-consuming processes, making difficult reach market. However, with advent genome mining, could be discovered efficiently using tools BAGEL, antiSMASH, RODEO, etc., providing hope for better treatment diseases future. Computational methods used mining automatically detect annotate biosynthetic gene clusters genomic data, useful tool natural product discovery. This review aims shed light on history, diversity, mechanisms action data identified by traditional well strategies. It further substantiates various phases clinical trials some AMPs, an overview databases built expressly AMP advancements, evident that targeted stands beacon hope, offering immense potential expedite novel antimicrobials.
