Abstract Background Protein intake in infancy influences infant growth, body composition, and possibly metabolic programming later life. Our objectives were to investigate whether macronutrient content mother's own milk (MOM) differed between exclusive (EBF) or partial breastfeeding (PBF), including an estimation of protein (ePI) during the first 6 months Second, associations feeding type ePI with childhood growth composition at 7 years. Methods In a subset 150 participants from Odense Child Cohort, MOM was analysed for using midinfrared transmission spectroscopy. Information on duration collected through weekly SMS questionnaires used calculate ePI. Outcomes weight‐for‐age z ‐scores (WAZ) height‐for‐age (HAZ) birth years, terms dual X‐ray absorptiometry fat mass, fat‐free mass calculated indexes Results The did not differ EBF PBF, but significantly higher PBF infants than months. We found no difference WAZ HAZ until years age according type, within group, positively associated 7‐year ( β = 0.001; 95% CI 0.000–0.003; p 0.03) 0.002; 0.001–0.003; 0.007). Conclusion Milk infancy. Estimated partially breastfed age.
