Cherries are well known to be a rich source of (poly)phenols, especially anthocyanins, with exhibited antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The aim this review is describe the effects cherry extract observed in clinical trials respective tolerability indications, highlighting differences efficacy depending on type extract, cherry, formulation, dosage used. In particular, supplementation standardized tart extracts has been shown improve different markers human health, exercise performance, quality sleep. Most studies conducted date have reported total (poly)phenol anthocyanin doses administered that were contained extracts, which ranged from 143 2140 mg/day 15 547 mg/day, respectively, as duration treatments, acute 84 days. Although currently prescribed dietary supplements several areas medicine, further investigations mechanisms action long-term randomized (RCTs) required order validate safety applications. addition, real challenge for next few years standardization cherry’s (poly)phenolic fractions. context, optimization extraction procedure downstream processing represents key point reliable active guiding principles formulation food supplements. fact, due methods cherries, relative closely related specific profile obtained, cannot extrapolated literature. Future research should include an analysis reporting content analytical used quantify individual contents.
