Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) has been widely studied due to its environmental persistence and bioaccumulation potential, raising concerns about effects on aquatic life. This research evaluates the impact of PFOA antioxidant defenses stress response systems mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis. Mussels were exposed three concentrations (1, 10, 100 µg·L−1) over 28 days. Several biomarkers, including glutathione S-transferase (GST), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), lipid peroxidation (LPO), total capacity (TAC), vitellogenin (VTG), ubiquitin (UBI), caspase-3 (CASP) analyzed. The results suggest responses, particularly in animals higher concentrations, as shown by GST SOD activities which increased according concentrations. Additionally, oxidative markers such MDA CAT showed variable responses depending exposure concentration tested. study underscores need for further investigation into mollusks but also unveil gender-specific organisms this contaminant. used our are lower than those examined previous studies, providing crucial insights impacts even minimal levels. It highlights potential M. galloprovincialis a bioindicator monitoring programs, management policymaking regarding regulating marine settings. Consequently, country where seafood consumption is second largest Europe, implementing policies regulatory measures manage monitor levels environments crucial.
