ABSTRACT
Aeromonas
salmonicida
is
the
etiological
agent
of
furunculosis,
a
septicemic
disease
with
high
mortality
rates
affecting
salmonids
and
other
teleost
species
worldwide.
Reviewing
molecular
diagnostic
protocols
for
routine
diagnostics,
we
realized
that
amplification
vapA
target
gene
failed
in
some
cases
furunculosis.
Therefore,
hypothesized
emergence
new
strain
may
be
involved
recent
outbreaks.
In
this
work,
demonstrate
locus
absent
strain,
which
explains
why
it
lacks
major
membrane
component
VapA
protein,
critical
virulence
factor.
addition,
found
vapA-
differs
from
its
counterparts
outer
protein
lipopolysaccharide
profiles,
suggesting
profound
changes
at
structure
level
antigenic
properties.
These
features
along
sequence
analysis
information
allowed
us
to
infer
complex
genomic
rearrangement,
probably
an
indel
encompassing
entire
locus,
gave
rise
phenotype.
Although
causes
pathogen
evolution
were
not
fully
elucidated,
our
results
strongly
suggest
responsible
raising
proportion
furunculosis
cases,
related
less
virulent
low
serological
response
upon
vaccination
