Mycelium-bound composites (MBCs) represent a promising advancement in bio-based building materials, offering sustainable alternatives for engineering and construction applications. This review provides comprehensive overview of the current research landscape, production methodologies, standardization ideas related to MBCs. A basic search on Scopus revealed over 250 publications MBCs between 2020 2024, with more than 30% focusing materials science. Key studies have investigated physical mechanical properties MBCs, optimizing parameters such as substrate type, fungal species, incubation time, post-processing enhance material performance. Standardizing inspection MBC is crucial ensuring quality reliability. Various testing standards, including those from American Society Testing Materials (ASTM), International Organization Standardization (ISO), Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS), European Standards (EN), Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN), Thai Institute (TIS), are utilized evaluate density, water absorption, compression strength, tensile insulation, other critical properties. highlights distinction lab-scale apply-scale emphasizing need evaluation protocols. Additionally, process involves steps like preparation, species selection, mycelium growth, necessitating implementation good manufacturing practices (GMPs) ensure consistency quality. The internal external structures significantly influence their performance, standardized methods using advanced techniques scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray computed tomography (CT) scanning, surface profilometry. By establishing robust protocols industry can reliability adoption contributing innovations science promoting environmental sustainability. underscores importance interdisciplinary collaboration, characterization tools, regulatory frameworks address challenges advance field

Products made from petroleum-derived plastic materials are linked to many environmental problems, such as greenhouse gas emissions and pollution. It is desirable manufacture products environmentally friendly instead of petroleum-based materials. biomass–fungi composite biodegradable can be utilized for packaging, construction, furniture. In materials, biomass particles (derived agricultural wastes) serve the substrate, fungal hyphae network binds together. There reported studies on 3D printing However, there no biodegradation 3D-printed samples this study, two types were used prepare printable mixture hemp hurd beechwood sawdust. The fungi strain was Trametes versicolor. Extrusion based print samples. left five days allow grow. then dried in an oven 4 h at 120 °C kill all buried soil using a mesh bag kept chamber 25 with relative humidity 48%. weight these measured every week over period three months. During testing period, test lost about 33% their original weight, whereas sawdust 30% weight. SEM (scanning electron microscope) micrographs showed presence zygospores samples, providing evidence soils. Additionally, difference peak intensity between control (for both sawdust) additional
