Introduction Triclosan is a common antibacterial drug identified as major contaminant in South African waters, notably Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal provinces. This comes from personal care products pharmaceuticals. It has been frequently detected local streams wastewater treatment plants, posing threat to aquatic ecosystems human health. Studies have emphasised the necessity of addressing presence triclosan water bodies lessen its harmful impacts on environment. Methods In this study, NaAlg/MnS x bio-nanocomposite hydrogel beads incorporated with different amounts MnS NPs (0.02–0.2 g) were synthesised via ionic gelation method employed an adsorbent for removal aqueous solutions. The surface charge, morphology, thermal stability, crystallinity, functional groups characterised by SEM equipped EDX, TEM, Thermogravimetric analysis, FTIR, XRD, zeta sizer (mV). Results discussions experimental results demonstrated that incorporating 0.02–0.2 g hydrogels led enhanced mechanical structure, porosity, swelling ability adsorption compared pristine NaAlg hydrogel. response methodology was used optimise parameters affecting batch onto adsorbent. Basic pH conditions suitable removing solutions hydrogen bonding carboxyl beads. pseudo-second order, Freundlich, Sips models better explained kinetics equilibrium isotherm data. maximum capacity estimated using Langmuir model 132 mg/g. thermodynamic (enthalpy (∆H) entropy (∆S)) found be 44.042 kJ/mol 207.018 J/Kmol, respectively, which means reaction endothermic increases randomisation at solid/liquid interface. Gibbs free energy (∆G) negative throughout studied temperature range, indicating process spontaneously energetically favoured.

Fructose is a carbohydrate with essential applications in the food industry, mainly due to its high sweetness and low cost. The present investigation focused on optimising fructose production from commercial inulin using enzymatic immobilisation method applying response surface methodology 12-run central composite design. independent variables evaluated were pH (−) temperature (°C). substrate consisted of solution at concentration 1 g/L, while catalyst enzyme inulinase Aspergillus niger (EC 232-802-3), immobilised 2% m/v sodium alginate. A stirred vessel reactor was used for 90 min 120 rpm, quantification reducing sugars determined DNS colorimetric UV–Vis spectrophotometric methods 540 nm wavelength. After methodology, it that catalytic activity allows maximum total productivity 16.4 mg/h under 3.9 37 °C, respectively, an efficiency 96.4%. enzymes’ reusability stability compared free enzymes evaluated, obtaining up fifth reuse cycle showing significant advantages over catalyst.
