Addressing hazards from dangerous pollutants requires specialized techniques and risk-control strategies, including detection, neutralization disposal of contaminants. Smart polymers, designed for specific contaminants, provide powerful solutions hazardous compound challenges. Their remarkable performance capabilities potential applications present exciting opportunities further exploration development in this field. This editorial aims to a comprehensive overview smart materials with unique features emerging polymeric technologies that are being developed isolation, screening, removal, decontamination compounds (e.g., heavy metals, pharmaceutically active hormones, endocrine-disrupting chemicals, pathogens, energetic materials). It highlights recent advancements synthesis methods, characterization, the molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), along alternative platforms hydrogels, ion-imprinted composites, screen-printed electrodes, nanoparticles, nanofibers. MIPs offer highly selective recognition properties, reusability, long-term stability, low production costs. Various MIP types, particles films, used like sensing/diagnostic devices biochemicals, pharmaceuticals, environmental safety.
