Composite electrolytes for applications in electrochemical energy technology, i.e. batteries and supercapacitors, are gaining increasing attention. In the absence of a commonly accepted definition ternary combination materials, e.g. polymer with an electrolyte salt or solution third conductivity-enhancing constituent, is assumed as composite following review. Relevant fundamentals reported research results up to explanations observed effects improvements reviewed. Future perspectives directions further indicated.
