Background/objectives: Propolis (bee glue) is a valuable bee product widely used as natural remedy, cosmetic ingredient, nutritional value enhancer and food biopreservative. The present research aims to investigate the phenolic content, antioxidant activity in vitro anti-inflammatory antitumor potential of six propolis samples from three regions Bulgaria (Vidin, Gabrovo Lovech). Methods: analysis compounds was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC); ethanolic extracts assessed 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay ferric-reducing power (FRAP) assay; inhibition albumin denaturation method; human metastatic breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 using 3-(4,5-Dimethyl -2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Results: exhibited total content 190.4 317.0 mg GAE/g, flavonoid 53.4 79.3 QE/g caffeic acid derivatives 5.9 12.1 CAE/g. studied showed significant capacity (between 1000.3 1606.0 mM TE/g DPPH assay, between 634.1 1134.5 FRAP assay). chemical composition indicated high concentrations benzyl ester, chrysin, pinocembrin pinobanksin-3-O-propionate, predominantly originating Lovech regions. All demonstrated promising activity, expressed thermally induced 73.59% 78.44%, which higher than that conventional drugs Aspirin (58.44%) Prednisolone Cortico (57.34%). cytotoxicity against cells with IC50 values ranging 9.24 13.62 µg/mL MTT Conclusions: Overall, we can suggest Bulgarian respective areas contributes its enhanced antioxidant, activity. Taken together, our results support beneficial properties propolis, application therapeutic agent.

This study aimed to investigate the physicochemical characteristics and biological potential of fruits (dried frozen) four wild growing medicinal plants from Dospat region, Rhodope Mountain, Bulgaria – rosehip ( Rosa canina ), black elder Sambucus nigra cranberry Vaccinium vitis-idaea ) juniper (Juniperus communis). The properties (moisture, ash, carbohydrates, proteins vitamin C contents) were determined. Afterwards, activities (total phenolic content - TPC, total flavonoid TFC, antioxidant, antimicrobial anti-inflammatory) methanolic extracts investigated. TPC values varied between 5.37 mg GAE/g dw berry) 19.64 (frozen cranberry), while TFC 1.26 QE/g rosehip) 9.74 elderberry). antioxidant activity determined by DPPH method 24.23 mM TE/g 154.63 those obtained FRAP 23.06 138.54 cranberry). showed moderate high activity. berry elderberry demonstrated anti-inflammatory potential. results revealed great studied berries for application in pharmaceutical functional food products.

Helichrysum italicum has piqued the interest of many researchers in recent years, mostly for its essential oil, but increasingly polyphenolic content as well. In current study, we examine composition H. grown Bulgaria. The complex was fractionated with solvents various polarities, including hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and butanol, order to assess biological impact components. HPLC-PDA UHPLC-MS/MS were used all fractions. green coffee fingerprint profile employed a “surrogate standard” components detection approach. From analysis, identified 60 such quercetin 3-O-glucuronide, acetyl-glycoside, isorhamnetin caffeoyl-glycoside, caffeoyl-malonyl-glycoside, coumaroyl-glycoside, coumaroyl-caffeoylquinic acid, diCQA-acetyl-derivative first reported italicum. activity fractions evaluated vitro silico, which included fight against oxidative stress (hydrogen peroxide scavenging (HPSA), hydroxyl radical (HRSA), metal-chelating (MChA)) nitrosative (nitric oxide activity) (NOSA)), anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic activity. Results are presented IC50 ± SD μg/mL. analysis showed that EtOAc fraction characterized by highest HPSA (57.12 1.14 μg/mL), HRSA (92.23 1.10 MChA (5.60 0.17 NOSA (89.81 2.09 while hexane chloroform significantly higher anti-inflammatory (30.48 2.33 μg/mL, 62.50 1.69 μg/mL) compared standard ibuprofen. All three potential (102.93 8.62 108.92 4.42 84.19 3.89 μg/mL).

Since ancient times, essential oils obtained from various aromatic plants have been utilized as bioactive ingredients in medicines, foods and cosmetics. The present study aimed to investigate the chemical composition biological activities of St John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum L.) oil (SJW EO) Bulgaria, which is known possess properties. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis, determination antioxidant activity (by ABTS method), an antimicrobial test vitro anti-inflammatory were performed. main classes compounds identified by GC–MS analysis monoterpenes (43.55%), followed sesquiterpenes (36.81%) alkanes (16.92%). predominant components SJW EO α-pinene (27.52%), β-pinene (10.08%), β-caryophyllene (6.77%), germacrene D (6.37%) caryophyllene oxide (4.48%). highest antibacterial was observed against Gram-negative bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 13883 (inhibition zone 12.0 mm) Pseudomonas aeruginosa 9027 11.0 mm). exhibited significant activity, results demonstrated that its effect stronger than those conventional drugs Prednisolon Cortico acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin), used controls (all concentration 1 mg/mL). Bulgarian can be active ingredient new products for pharmaceutical cosmetic industries.
