Critical raw materials are economically and strategically important for industry both in the short long term. However, their supply is at high risk due to limited domestic deposits reliance on imports. As demand these grows, alternative sources must be explored. This study investigates recovery of critical from waste, focusing incineration residues, industrial byproducts, electronic waste. The research analyzes various waste streams, including municipal solid bottom ash fly ash, as well determine potential secondary materials. Key elements targeted include rare earth (REEs), antimony, vanadium, cobalt, other strategic metals. evaluates effectiveness hydrometallurgical, pyrometallurgical, bioleaching, electrochemical techniques extraction. Findings indicate that contains 1–3% ferrous metals up 0.4% non-ferrous metals, elements, while has substantial quantities heavy suitable recovery. highlights large-scale could reduce primary sources, support circular economy, enhance chain resilience context energy transition. By providing a comprehensive assessment technologies economic environmental implications, this underscores importance valuable resource material supply. findings contribute policy discussions sustainable management reduction geopolitical risks associated with dependency.
