China’s
National
Key
Ecological
Function
Zones
(NKEFZs)
currently
represent
the
largest
and
most
extensive
ecological
conservation
policy
in
China,
with
one
of
core
objectives
this
being
to
improve
eco-environmental
quality
(EEQ).
This
study
regards
establishment
NKEFZs
as
a
quasi-natural
experiment.
Based
on
panel
data
from
130
counties
Sichuan
Province
2001
2021,
multi-period
difference-in-differences
(DID)
model
was
employed
evaluate
impact
NKEFZ
EEQ.
The
findings
indicate
following:
①
can
significantly
enhance
EEQ
covered
areas,
albeit
gradual
long-term
process.
conclusion
not
only
meets
parallel-trends
assumption
but
also
holds
true
series
robustness
tests
such
placebo
tests.
②
Mechanism
analysis
reveals
that
through
effects
optimizing
land
spatial
allocation
upgrading
industrial
structure.
③
Heterogeneity
demonstrates
beneficial
effect
varies
across
different
functional
zone
types,
geographic
spaces
ethnic
regions.
Our
contributes
accumulation
empirical
evidence
institutional
refinement
sustainable
implementation
policies
