Background: White noise has attracted widespread attention due to its potential effects on psychological and physiological states, particularly in promoting relaxation. The prefrontal cortex, a critical region of the brain responsible for higher cognitive functions emotional regulation, may influence an individual’s mental physical health through responses external stimuli. Although previous research investigated calming white noise, systematic studies specific impact cortex activity are still lacking. This study aims explore elucidate associated mechanisms. Methods: In total, 103 healthy adult college students were recruited randomly divided into four groups (fire, n = 24; wind, 27; rain, snow, 25), with each group exposed corresponding 3 min. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) was used evaluate excitability changes life signs facial expressions also measured. Results: data fNIRS analyzed by paired sample t-test; wind snow group, we found that can be effectively decreased cortical related areas. areas reduced concentrated pars triangularis Broca’s frontopolar area, while concentration oxyhemoglobin these two area from −0.159 −0.107 µmol/L −0.139 −0.096 µmol/L, respectively, both involved relaxing sedative modulation. Conclusion: reduce play effect. It strengthen our understanding how is neural
