Mapping grazing intensity (GI) using satellites is crucial for developing adaptive utilization strategies according to grassland conditions. Here we developed a monitoring framework based on paired sampling strategy and the classification probability of random forest algorithm produce annual (GP) GI maps at 10-m spatial resolution from 2015 2021 largest temperate meadow in China (Hulun Buir grasslands), by harmonized Landsat 7/8 Sentinel-2 images. The GP used values 0-1 present detailed gradient information. To match widely gradients, with ungrazed, moderately grazed, heavily grazed levels were generated dataset decision tree. 2015-2021 had an overall accuracy more than 0.97 having significant correlations statistical data city (r = 0.51) county 0.75) scales. They also effectively captured gradients site scale 0.94). Our study proposed approach presented information sustainable management.

The up-surging population in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has led to the conversion of more land for agricultural purposes. Resilient utilization types that input carbon soil are key enhancing climate change mitigation. However, there limited data on different types’ contribution mitigation through soils. study aims quantify stock across (LUT) practiced Western Kenya. following were studied: agroforestry M (agroforestry with Markhamia lutea), sole sorghum, L Leucaena leucocephalaI), maize, and grazing replicated thrice. To determine bulk density, SOC concentration, stock, samples collected at depths 0–5, 5–10, 10–20, 20–30 cm from LUTs. A PROC ANOVA was used difference SOC, between LUTs depths. four variables differed high density observed 0–5 under (1.6 g cm−3) lowest (1.30 cm−3). Conversely, low land. depth accounted a share Agroforestry M, while 10–20 L. showed differences findings highlight promising interventions toward induction

Livestock grazing is the major land-use regime of grasslands, and affects ecosystem structure functioning considerably. However, few studies have examined how intensity impacts multifunctionality (EMF) via biodiversity loss. We studied responses EMF to livestock in a temperate grassland Inner Mongolia, China. Four intensities (i.e., no (NG), light (LG), moderate (MG), heavy (HG)) were chosen based on distance core zones, vegetation soil indications grazing, suggestions from local guides. For each intensity, three plots (10 m × 10 m) placed randomly, plants, soil, four traits present species sampled 1-m2 quadrats plot. analyzed components taxonomic diversity (TD), functional (FD), identity), multiple functions aboveground biomass, belowground water content, organic matter, total nitrogen, phosphorus, available phosphorus), (based averaging approach threshold-based approach) different intensities, relative importance regulating effect EMF. Our results showed that dominant plant community shifted slow-growing conservative fast-growing acquisitive as intensified, accompanied by decline Stipa baicalensis (the predominant native grass NG), whereas Carex duriuscula became HG sites. TD, FD, EMF, well six eight individual functions, displayed significant decrease trend along gradient. According Bayesian structural equation models (SEM), was mainly driven indirect effects through TD reduction (direct effects: 0.45) changes identity − 0.67), but direct not significant. By using approach, we found CWM prominent impact number exceeding threshold level 63 %, 64 65 respectively. When increased 90 explanation SEM decreased 41 found. highlighted vital role mediating response shed conservation sustainability.

Permanent grasslands are characterized by herbaceous flora adapted to local conditions, with deep root systems that facilitate resource uptake and provide resistance anthropogenic abiotic stresses. This study aimed develop implement efficient diagnostic agronomic management tools for farmers. In order demonstrate the methodology, we selected five diverse different characteristics. The research tested grass typology method diagnose these areas establish optimal practices based on floristic composition. was applied achieve rational of studied. results provided valuable data composition, species frequency, specific functional indices. characterization in Moșnița Nouă Timiș County enabled us recognize grassland strategies each area, maximizing production typology. Thus, demonstrated impact using simplified improve diagnosis management, significantly contributing more sustainable maintenance permanent
