A Meta-Analysis on Teachers’ Growth Mindset DOI Open Access

The concept of growth mindset—an individual’s beliefs that basic characteristics such as intelligence are malleable—has gained immense popularity in research, the media, and educational practice. Even though it is assumed teachers need a mindset both their students benefit when adopt mindset, systematic syntheses potential advantages lacking. Therefore, this article, we present first meta-analysis on teachers’ its relationships with multiple outcomes (50 studies, 81 effect sizes; N = 19,555). Multilevel analyses showed small across outcomes. Statistically significant small-to-typical positive associations between motivation terms self-efficacy mastery goals were observed subgroup analyses. No statistically found performance-approach goals, performance-avoidance performance achievement tests, or student achievement. Öz Bilim ve teknolojideki ilerlemeler, uzayan insan ömrü, savaş, göç, küresel salgın gibi insanları bireysel toplumsal açıdan etkileyen olgu olaylar yetişkin eğitiminin önemini artırmaktadır. Değişen koşullara uyum sağlamak, sorun çözme becerileri geliştirmek, geleceğe yönelik öngörülerde bulunmak, gerektiğinde inisiyatif alarak harekete geçmek davranışların kazanılmasında etkili olan Gelişime Açık Zihin (GZ) yapısı giderek artan bir ivme ile araştırmalara konu olmaktadır. Yurt içi alanyazında Türkçeye farklı terimlerle çevrilen bu çalışmada olarak ifade edilen Growth Mindset kuramı uluslararası önceleri pedagojik ele alınmış, sonraki yıllarda hayat boyu öğrenme eğitimi kapsamında kuramsal deneysel pek çok çalışmaya da olmuştur. Bu çalışma ulusal eğitimini GZ çerçevesinde alan araştırmaları kapsamaktadır. Çalışmanın amacı yolculuğunda yetişkinlerin alanında yapısının olası etkilerini inceleyen analiz etmektir. amaçla konuyu araştırmalar sistematik yöntemiyle incelenmiştir. İncelemeler sonucunda, yurt yapısını sınırlı sayıda olduğu, sayılarının arttığı, çalışmalarda genellikle betimsel yönteminin kullanıldığı büyük çoğunluğunun lisansüstü tez çalışması olduğu görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak, yetişkinliğin biyolojik, psikolojik, sosyolojik ekonomik boyutları olması; doğası gereği ihtiyaç yükümlülükler içermesi nedeniyle, eğitiminde etkisi işlevi üzerine çalışmalar yapılması gerektiği vurgulanmıştır.

Does teachers’ self-reported growth mindset ensure growth mindset-oriented feedback practices in the classroom? DOI Creative Commons

This study examined the congruence/incongruence between teachers’ self-reported mindset beliefs and their actual teaching practices within framework of implicit theories intelligence. A total 226 middle school teachers (65.90% female, average age = 31.70 years, SD 5.03; education year 16.23, 1.49; experience 6.52 4.17) from Shanghai City, mainland China, completed growth inventory (GMI) for measuring underwent classroom observations, which recorded frequency mindset-oriented feedback while teaching. Subsequently, 20 with most extreme GMI scores (i.e., 10 highest lowest this initial pool) were invited to take part in semi-structured interviews understand reasons behind possible congruence/incongruence. Interesting results found. First, spearman correlation multiple regression analyses suggested incongruence real settings those neutral mindsets but congruence fixed mindsets. Second, further illustrated that whether demonstrated was influenced by contextual factors such as institutional policies, cultural orientations, community expectations, general educational competition environment. These findings contribute a deeper understanding influencing alignment practices, highlight need addressing these discrepancies teacher development programs.
