A Novel High Isolation 4-Port Compact MIMO Antenna with DGS for 5G Applications DOI Creative Commons

This paper presents the design and realization of a simple low-profile, four-port multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna operating in mm-wave band supporting 5G communication technologies. As part methodology, initial stage involved development conventional monopole patch optimized for operation at 26 GHz, which was matched to 50 Ω stepped feed line. Afterward, square-shaped defected ground structure (DGS) with semi-circle slots on edges placed improve isolation, circular rectangular were incorporated as DGSs optimize impedance bandwidth. Etching semi-circular-shaped plane achieved more than 34.2 dB isolation GHz band. In addition, an arrangement four symmetrical radiating elements positioned orthogonally minimize antenna's physical size isolation. The proposed MIMO overall dimension 25 × mm2, printed Rogers 5880 substrate width 0.787 mm εr = 2.2. covered 10 bandwidth ranging from 25.28-28.02 whereas maximum gain attained 8.72 dBi. Additionally, implementation these effectively mitigated mutual coupling, resulting reduced envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) values.
