The kinetic investigation of rhodamine B dye's photocatalytic degradation, chosen as a model pollutant, was conducted at room temperature using Zinc oxide (ZnO) and nickel-doped zinc (Zn0.97Ni0.03O) photocatalysts synthesized through the spray pyrolysis method. XRD analysis confirmed formation hexagonal ZnO Zn0.97Ni0.03O films, with crystallite sizes ranging from 19 to 29 nm varying in mean average grain size 72 88 nm. surface morphology Ni-doped films influenced by nickel doping, observed SEM TEM micrographs, revealing dense structure spherical-shaped crystals. Light transmission optical band gap energy ranged between specified values, 3.27 3.24 eV. degradation process assessed under various conditions, including different light sources (UV lamp solar irradiation), pH levels, substrate concentrations. Degradation followed pseudo-first-order model, rate constants (k) half-life times (t1/2) calculated accordingly. efficiency undoped doped decreased increasing concentration UV irradiation (0.1–0.5 M) (34.29–45.02) (49.61–56.61), while visible are (40–45.07 %) (58.46–60.24 %), removal rates within specific percentages. porous 0.5 M exhibited highest due its enhanced crystallinity, resulting 9.22 11.22 × 10−3 min−1 75.18 61.77 min 90 for both irradiations, respectively. Acidification reaction medium accelerated kinetics, alkalization slowed it down. These findings mark significant advancement utilization semiconductors water pollutant natural sunlight.
