Biomass is a vital index used to evaluate the vegetation rebuilding effect of mining slopes after restoration. It essential establish models for estimating biomass and carbon storage community on slopes. Therefore, this paper establishes such vegetation, taking an abandoned quarry ecological restoration in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, as research object. Firstly, variables estimation were determined based correlation analysis results; model was comprehensively selected, accuracy optimal verified. Meanwhile, calculation established combination with content growth pattern vegetation. The results showed that (1) cubic linear functions, respectively, shrubs herbs, while relevant shrub herb plants average height multiplied by diameter each plant (DH) coverage rate (CH), verification R2 > 0.814, RS 2.8%, RMA 6%; (2) restored slopes, 120.264 t, including 10.586 t herbs 109.678 shrubs, 50.585 3.705 46.880 shrubs. proposed have good prediction reliability quantitative evaluation can be applied providing reference environmental sustainability post-mining areas other ecologically

Despite decades of research and practice restoring forests on surface coal mines, success is still variable, failures often occur. To better understand how variation in site factors management affects the restoration we conducted a survey tree performance for mine sites Illinois Basin across Indiana, USA, reclaimed between 2008 2018. We explored impacts climate soil conditions survival growth planted trees, as well cover associated vegetation. Average overall (21%) was relatively low compared to typical unmined sites. Organic matter had one most consistent largest effects oak species, with highest 3 5%. Soil phosphorus content important factor determining whether planting totally failed affected White ( Quercus alba ) Swamp white Q. bicolor ), though its effect nonlinear. Rainfall year large positive Persimmon Diospyros virginiana Black walnut Juglans nigra temperature Bur macrocarpa Persimmon. Planting diverse mix species best option both approximating natural conditions, avoiding problems from failure individual species. While vary, successful forest former mines can occur; this study reveals some affecting such success.

Open-pit mining seriously damages the original vegetation community and soil layer disturbs carbon cycle of soil, causing instability in ecosystem decrease sequestration capacity area. With deepening environmental awareness influence related policies, ecological restoration open-pit mines has been promoted. The is distinct owing to disperse distribution small scale single mines. However, capability after not clearly evaluated. Therefore, this study evaluated mines, taking Yangtze River Basin Jurong City, Jiangsu Province as research objects. Firstly, visual effects their current status were determined through field investigation, methods for sampling data collection selected, specific laboratory tests such content organic clarified. Meanwhile, evaluation system consisting three aspects nine indexes was established by using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) fuzzy comprehensive (FCE). included following: establishment judgment matrix, calculation index weight, determination membership function, matrix. Finally, results with ‘excellent, good, normal poor’ grade classification according standards each proposed considering investigation tests. indicated that (1) mines’ excellent good at a proportion 62.5% 37.5%, which line demonstrated all restored effectively improved; (2) weights criterion ranked stability > largest value 0.547, indicating main factor sustainability fixation on slope. evaluates short-term testing results, objectively reflecting via qualitative assessment quantitative analysis. method relatively applicable reliable can provide reference similar engineering.

Forestry reclamation practices have been very popular in the second half of last century, and many spoil heaps converted into forests since. In our experiment, three forest reclamations different ages (~90, ~50, ~30 years) soil vegetation covers (I—maple cherry, II—maple, III—alder) from Sokolov, Czech Republic, were investigated. each stands, two profiles dug, both disturbed undisturbed samples taken all recognized horizons. Samples tested for bulk particle density, porosity, water retention capacity, pH (H2O, KCl), cation exchange oxidizable carbon content, organic matter quality, plant available nutrients, risk elements. A comparison these properties throughout profile, as well between was presented. significant role stand age profile development quality observed, tendency anthropogenic mine Technosol to evolve a Cambisol this climate region parent material. Influence cover observed ameliorate by accumulating matter, thus reducing compaction increasing CEC nutrient availability.

The mining of ilmenite has irreversible negative environmental impacts on the ecosystem area where companies operate. First all, it leads to disturbance soil and vegetation layer, changes in natural landscape, formation depression sinkholes, which causes water flow distribution area, lowering groundwater levels, pollution atmosphere, bodies, loss species diversity flora fauna. In general, process lasts for decades, during time territory is subject disturbances requires high-quality restoration after completion mining. article suggests a methodology assessing forest potential soils areas disturbed by using remote earth sensing (RES). Based satellite images spectral characteristics, we determined parameters type moisture, as well moisture index layer results were compared with laboratory analyzes samples from operated branch Irshansk Mining Processing Plant PJSC UMCC. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, Moisture calculated identified QGIS software data obtained free-access images. showed that combination methods can be quite effective studying activities state their recovery reclamation.

Bauxite mining, a key aluminum production process, can cause environmental degradation, soil erosion, and biodiversity loss. Reclamation measures like reforestation water management restore balance. Red mud, by-product of alumina production, enhance fertility plant growth in post-bauxite mining reclamation areas. Its alkalinity mineral composition reduce reliance on synthetic fertilizers, promoting sustainable addressing challenges. This study aimed to examine the impact red mud characteristics plants areas during bauxite land reclamation. was conducted post-reclamation area West Kalimantan. The experiment involved two treatments: application species revegetation plant. Plant consist Embeng, Forest Guana, Johar, Rambutan. used randomized block design with 24 experimental units. parameters measured included pH, organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, exchangeable cations, cation exchange capacity, base saturation, while high percentage percentages increased stem diameter. findings showed that adding planting hole pH improved nutrient availability, enhanced post-mining at PT Antam, UBPB Embeng is highly regarded as suitable for re-vegetating after mining.
