A significant amount of fungicides consumed in European agriculture are used viticulture, despite vineyards only occupying a very limited percentage the cultivated area. Cultivation disease-resistant hybrid grape cultivars can reduce vineyard treatments by half, with decrease climate-altering emissions, farmer costs, occupational injury risks, and excessive soil compression. The objective this study is to investigate motives barriers that winegrowers South Tyrol, Italy face when considering conversion fungus-resistant varieties (PIWI) farming. We conducted qualitative using in-depth interviews participant observation gain insight into their perspectives on reasons for challenges adopting or practicing PIWI viticulture. paper tests two hypotheses: environmental commitment concerns producers personal values ethics relational social influences, leading towards consideration sustainability. results present picture aligned existing literature, emphasizing stronger sustainability while also economic legislative constraints cultivation niche wine variety, which still has market presence distribution.
