The productivity of yam in Ghana has been on a constant decline recently, mainly due to weather extremes and nematode infestations. This significantly affected the profitability production, with resultant effect livelihoods thousands income dependent households. Metropolitan areas increasingly confront complex challenges related to food security, social inequality, environmental degradation, and resource scarcity, exacerbated by rapid urbanization, climate change, the reliance on extended, fragile supply chains. Urban peri-urban agriculture (UPA) is recognized as a promising approach mitigate these issues. For example, it enhances security nutrition strengthening local systems, improves livelihoods providing employment income for residents, promotes sustainability through creation of greening spaces reduction miles. However, full potential UPA remains constrained various technological, economic, barriers, such limited growing spaces, lack land tenure low economic efficiency, insufficient public awareness acceptance.
