Background: The disposal of plastic material has been gaining negative attention due to its impact on the environment and people’s health. Insulin pens used by people living with diabetes are disposed through landfills or incineration, negatively impacting generating costs for state. Methods: In an attempt reduce in costs, “Insulinadiamor” project was created, which uses handicrafts as a means re-socializing women deprived their liberty. this project, female inmates state Sergipe turn insulin into ballpoint pens. Results: During year 2022, 2000 were transformed We estimate loss around USD 37,150.28 inappropriate use medicines, reflected return complete insulins. addition, avoiding landfill incineration content collected, we contributed estimated saving almost 603.91 more than 80 kg CO2-equivalent emissions. Conclusions: This brings sustainable transformative approach involving financial savings, rehabilitation inmates, contribution environment. It also raises importance creating initiatives waste health sector other areas.
