Abstract Present acceleration of interest in geoheritage makes urgent a very large inventory geosites all parts the world, which task cannot be achieved by only geoconservationists. Pure geological publications seem to promising deal with without visiting them. To realize existence such an opportunity, ten fresh examples research articles reporting exceptional palaeogeographical localities from different geographical domains and time slices were considered. A semi-quantitative, score-based assessment suitability (quality) published information was undertaken. This procedure should distinguished geosite evaluation, is not aim this study. It found that outcomes pure journal can really help identify world-class geosites, although these enough characterize (especially regarding properties as accessibility vulnerability). Finding additional literature realizing conservation status are other challenges inventories based on articles. Some recommendations for writing geoheritage-unrelated so satisfy needs geoconservation given.

Geological heritage sites (geosites) have various properties such as accessibility, geometry, and vulnerability, well age. It is reasonable to distinguish the geological ages related content of geosites (e.g., Early Ordovician or Valanginian) from technical physical appearance (forms) Late Pleistocene, Prehistoric, 21st century). This study examines 17 known Western Caucasus–a geologically-rich area Greater Caucasus orogen. The revision update stratigraphical information allow establish their ages. are defined old (before 19th century), historical (19th–20th centuries), young (the beginning results show that analyzed shed light on lengthy time span (from late Proterozoic Quaternary), Cisuralian–Early Cretaceous sedimentary succession represented with significant completeness. Technically, chiefly old, although features also common. outcomes this do not only systematize knowledge Caucasus, but several practical implications (for instance, conservation technically priority, important arrange logically for educational touristic excursions).
