Abstract The product of thermochemical processing lignocellulosic biomass is biochar. It has a range properties that make it suitable for variety economic applications. However, during pyrolysis and torrefaction, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released may redeposit on the surface Some these be harmful to environment humans. Bibliometric study shows that, date, studies release VOCs from biochar have been an inventory nature concerned with specific case types biomass. To there no comprehensive systematic analysis influence pyrolysis/torrefaction process parameters VOC formation redeposition In this paper, presented potential harmfulness components, based cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin chemistry data. 10 were identified as potentially due following properties: carcinogenicity, toxicity, flammability, skin corrosion/irritation, eye irritation, mutagenicity, different degrees harmfulness. Additionally, samples show hazard. Among 140 compounds, 33 them had properties. Therefore, ketones, aldehydes, cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons including polyaromatic hydrocarbons, their derivatives, esters, furans lead environmental contamination A new niche research development knowledge regarding biochars produced source pollutant emission identified.

The problem of food being wasted in households has become an essential challenge recent years. Food waste can be valorized accordance with the principles sustainable development, including as a source energy. This study analyses potential anaerobic fermentation, pyrolysis, ethanol incineration, and composting to treat waste, focusing on its energy yield. research considered two scenarios for generating Poland both near term (2030) long (2050). Scenarios were proposed regions different levels urbanization demographic trends. criteria selection technologies energy-efficient processing from identified, taking into account current state these technologies, their prospective changes, nature regions, trajectory generation, spatial generation rate, potential. Technologies like methane fermentation thermochemical methods should developed densely populated areas high rate. Among processes, fast pyrolysis will provide most significant benefits, followed by moderate biocarbonization—at similar levels. Incineration is placed between carbonization gasification. In less lower rates, combining substrates co-processing green considered. Biocarbonization systems integrated rural regions.

Focusing on plastic packaging waste, this study aimed to design feedstock recycling scenarios by harnessing industrial processes in a region and specify the technological requirements obtain climate benefits. The amount resin composition of waste that could be collected from surrounding an oil refinery sorted using different sorting schemes were projected. A pyrolysis experiment samples tailored mimic projected distillation test obtained conducted. Then, greenhouse gas emissions various evaluated considering substitution products surplus heat utilization. Results indicated that, when quality appropriately adjusted two-step preliminary utilized as substitute for fossil fuels at refinery, requirement achieve net zero emission alleviated.
