Coastal areas are among the most densely populated globally and crucial components of terrestrial marine ecosystems. Investigating interplay between population distribution ecosystem service value (ESV) in coastal regions, along with their spatial temporal dynamics, is for safeguarding ecological security, fostering regional sustainable development, facilitating a harmonious coexistence humans nature. This study focuses on China’s areas, utilizing land use data from 2000 to 2020 at county-level scale. Several methods, such as geographic concentration, autocorrelation, mismatch index, employed reveal relationships characteristics ESV. The main findings follows: (1) increased 580.6632 million 700.7265 million, rising density. core concentrated Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei Urban Agglomeration, Yangtze River Delta Pearl secondary cores forming near provincial capitals. (2) concentration lower than that population, displaying pattern “low–high–low” north south. ESV these has by CNY 121.66 billion, significant decline per capita Low values concentrations northern part research area, particularly across North China Plain. (3) correlation negative, relatively good overall coordination. Increased human activities urbanization have led degradation functions.

Clarifying the trade-offs and synergies of ecosystem services in Liaoning’s ecological restoration zones is crucial for strengthening positioning optimizing services. This study based on “Liaoning Provincial Land Spatial Planning (2021–2035)” divides area into zones. We utilized InVEST model, ArcGIS Pro, Geoda this to quantify five (Soil Conservation, Carbon Storage, Habitat Quality, Water Yield, Food Production) constructed an evaluation framework assess at both global local levels. The conclusions are as follows: (1) relationships among different ranked as: strong (35.51%) > weak (33.17%) low (29.09%) high (2.24%); (2) exhibiting synergistic between pairs larger than trade-offs; (3) strongest synergy observed water yield soil conservation, while most significant trade-off occurs food production conservation. These exhibit similar spatial characteristics WSFR, SWCR, WCR zones; (4) proportion areas showing differs scales.
