Promoting net-zero carbon in the Vietnamese construction sector: potential benefits and challenges identified by key stakeholders

Purpose
Achieving
net-zero
carbon
in
construction
offers
immense
environmental
and
economic
benefits,
but
its
widespread
adoption
developing
countries
faces
unique
challenges.
While
research
exists
on
construction,
the
specific
context
of
economies
like
Vietnam
remains
under-researched.
This
study
bridges
this
gap
by
investigating
potential
benefits
challenges
related
to
promoting
as
perceived
key
stakeholders
sector.
Design/methodology/approach
Employing
a
rigorous
methodology
with
four
main
phases,
data
collected
from
professionals
was
analyzed
using
various
statistical
techniques.
ANOVA
Tukey’s
post-hoc
analyses
were
employed
identify
differences
stakeholders’
perceptions,
while
identified
evaluated
ranked
based
their
mean
scores.
Findings
The
results
highlight
significant
difference
perception
among
stakeholders,
including
policymakers,
contractors,
suppliers
architects/designers.
In
addition,
all
acknowledge
social
particularly
improved
air
quality,
climate
change
mitigation
enhanced
corporate
responsibility;
persist,
high
initial
costs,
inadequate
business
models
lack
clear
standards.
Practical
implications
contributes
significantly
Vietnamese
sector
providing
valuable
recommendations
tailored

stakeholder
group.
These
efforts
can

Vietnam’s
national
goals
