This paper analyzes the effective use of a mixture fly ash (MSWI-FA) and solid waste from flue gas treatment (MSWI-SW), which are by-products municipal incineration process. MSWI-FA (19 01 13*) MSWI-SW 07*) classified as hazardous due to their toxic metal content leaching potential, currently lack practical applications, unlike slag bottom 12). study tested these wastes partial substitutes for natural sand within range 0–20% cement mass. Statistical analysis experimental results allowed creation good quality models predicting effect substitution additives on compressive strength flexural (correlation 0.91 0.93, respectively). The with highest share (40% = 20% + 20%) was characterized by decrease in 1.3% 25.8%. Cement mortars synthesized (up each component) showed slightly lower consistency water absorption than control mortars. After frost resistance tests (25 cycles), ambiguous behavior, showing both increases decreases, indicating that percentage components alone is an insufficient set factors properties. concentration ions, i.e., Zn, Cu, Pb, Ni, Cr, eluate after did not exceed legal levels pollutants introduced into waters, exception barium. However, its permissible required intended landfill. Using mixing plant this amount each, we save about EUR 10 cost purchasing (which 13% production costs 1 m3) 8 environmental fees when producing m3 mortar. proposed technology compatible objectives sustainable economy.

Circularity and Longevity of Alkali-Activated Materials: Case-study Using Rock Wool as a Precursor DOI Creative Commons

Published: March 3, 2025

Alkali-activated materials (AAMs) are being envisaged as a future alternative to cements because AAMs (i) can be made solely from locally available secondary raw and (ii) of their low energy consumption during synthesis. However, products that cannot reused should never enter the market. Therefore, circular economy viability was studied by reusing (alkali-activated) pulverised rock wool in alkali activation synthesis until theoretically determined limit leading efflorescence would reached. While 25% maximal allowed liquid did not offer significant mechanical performance, 50, 75 100% ended up with 15, 20 MPa, respectively, which is only 5 MPa lower than AAM same technique (pressing) one-step approach. if initial does reach limit, it could still used precursor before becomes waste.
