Urban agglomeration (UA) is a highly developed spatial form of urban complex, which one the important carriers regional economic cooperation, international industrial division labor, and flow capital information elements. In China, agglomerations (UAs) have become subject national new-type urbanization strategy since early 21st century made irreplaceable contributions to China’s development. The Guanzhong Plain (GPUA) an growth pole in northwest China key node open-door pattern. Exploring temporal characteristics driving factors its development will be revelation for promotion high-quality GPUA. This paper characterizes level GPUA with long series nighttime light data between 2002 2022. standard deviation ellipse, autocorrelation analysis, difference index, grey correlation analysis are used analyze spatio-temporal evolution, internal diversity, results show that continued increase from distribution economy “northeast-southwest” axial distribution, center gravity gradually moves westward. differences within typical core–periphery structure, but degree tends weaken over time. expansion force were dominant years.
