Purpose While research on sustainability practices in hotels is growing, most existing studies focus their environmental benefits or financial outcomes, with limited attention to the potential factors driving successful adoption and impact various dimensions of firm performance (financial, societal). The purpose this study introduce a holistic model incorporating internal (top management support, green open innovation organizational resources) external (collaboration suppliers customer demands) factors, examining role adopting practices. Additionally, moderating effect competitive intensity relationship between business analyzed. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 361 hotel managers Japan. responses analyzed using partial least squares approach. Findings findings support all proposed model, which had positive types. Overall, they confirm importance aligning both address concerns more effectively. Practical implications This demonstrates that integration sustainable hospitality food industries requires fundamental change company strategy, focusing long-term planning perspective goes beyond short-term results include environmental, social economic factors. Originality/value To best authors’ knowledge, contributes literature by providing one first empirical examinations how interacts influence performance. By integrating insights resource-based view stakeholder theory, highlights resources demands foster sustainability. These advance theoretical understanding provide practical guidelines for into strategic operations hotels.
