A comprehensive evaluation of the costs and benefits environmental regulations provides empirical evidence for policymakers to formulate introduce policies. Firms' profitability competitiveness manifest their market power provide micro foundation economic development social stability. Therefore, this paper focus on investigating impact air pollution regulation manufacturing firms' power, measured by markups, with a difference-in-differences (DID) method. Using control policy, requiring China's Key Cities Air Pollution Control (KCAPC) meet quality standards within specified time limit as natural experiment, our DID estimations show that significantly leads an increase in markup rate 0.002 key cities did not standards. Heterogeneous effects is larger polluting firms, private-owned foreign-owned firms located western central high marketization. Productivity share may be two main influencing channels explain positive markups. Our findings suggest strengthening conducive improving lending support enforcement regulations.

As global climate change accelerates, the need for precise and high-resolution carbon emission inventories becomes increasingly urgent, particularly in rapidly developing regions. This study introduces an advanced methodology constructing regional-scale gridded anthropogenic CO2 inventories, integrating latest energy consumption data remote sensing technologies. By systematically calculating emissions across various sectors types, utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) spatial distribution, we have generated a map with 1 km × grid. The accuracy of was validated through regression analysis Multi-resolution Emission Inventory China (MEIC) dataset, ensuring its reliability. work provides critical insights targeted reduction strategies, contributing to formulation sustainable development policies that align objectives.
