Abstract Taxonomy provides a general foundation for research on insects. Using stored product pest (SPP) arthropods as model group, this article overviews the historical impacts of taxonomy applied entomology. The surveys dynamics descriptions new species in various SPP taxa; majority all (90%) were described prior to 1925, while key pests 1866. review shows that process describing is not random but influenced by following factors: (i) larger tend be earlier than smaller and moths beetles are psocids mites; (ii) economic average less significant ones. Considering name “password” unique information resources, also assesses number synonymous or duplicate names species. Pests belonging some higher taxa Lepidoptera Coleoptera has accumulated more scientific synonyms those others Psocoptera Acari. Number positively correlated with importance summarized semantic origin showing minor proportion (17.6%) toponyms (geography) eponyms (people), (82.4%) fall into other categories (descriptive, etc.). It concluded awareness taxonomic advances, including changes names, should effectively communicated control practitioners entomology students, specifically addressed relevant textbooks, web media, databases.
