Chemical additives are considered to be one of the main contributors toxicity plastics, especially when they fragment into microplastics (MPs) in environment. Bisphenols (BPs), as plasticizers, a group dozens organic compounds that have been used building blocks manufacture polycarbonate epoxy resins and other products. This review provides an overview most commonly produced BPs (BPA, BPB, BPF, BPS, BPAF, BPAP) detected marine environment, methods available for their detection quantification, particularly bivalves, potential risks human exposure endocrine disrupting chemicals emerging contaminants. work shows presence BPA bivalve molluscs has investigated worldwide, with studies conducted on Asian coast, while analogues acting estrogenic, progesteronic anti-androgenic not studied. The estimated daily intake (EDI) BPA, BPP, BPAP sum these (ΣBPs) found bivalves South African coasts at both median maximum exceeded tolerable (TDI), suggesting EDI pose health hazard. There is need conduct implement distribution environment risk consumption potentially significant source intake.
