Abstract Environmental contamination by pesticides is of great concern, and herbicides are the most applied in agriculture. One widely used maize fields for post-emergent control weeds such as annual perennial grasses some broad-leaf plants based on active ingredient nicosulfuron. The nicosulfuron molecule relatively mobile can become bioavailable soil water, representing a toxicological risk to non-target organisms. Hence, this study investigated effects on: (1) induction micronuclei Vicia faba cells; (2) population growth rate microalgae Raphidocelis subcapitata; (3) the mobility microcrustacean Daphnia magna; (4) reproduction rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus. Nicosulfuron stimulated R. subcapitata after 72 h exposure. In contrast, highest concentration (100 mg L-1) D. magna completely inhibited individuals 48 exposure, (15.36 B. calyciflorus inhibited their 100%. Furthermore, was cytotoxic at concentrations tested with V. faba, genotoxic 3.12 L-1. As far we aware, first time have been plant model, demonstrate that compound ecotoxic aquatic media. Our advances knowledge organisms its presence environment.
