The scientific interest in the chemical modification of chitosan to increase its solubility and application has led conjugation with Schiff bases, which are interesting scaffolds endowed diverse biological properties. resultant chitosan-based bases (CSBs) widely studied literature due myriad activities exerted, both catalytic biological, including anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, especially antimicrobial ones. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one major public health challenges twenty-first century because it represents a threat prevention treatment growing number bacterial, parasitic, viral, fungal infections that no longer treatable available drugs. Thus, this review, we present brief outline CSBs as well their complexes metals, particular focus on recent regarding effect these captivating derivatives.

Multidrug antimicrobial resistance (AMR) represents a formidable challenge in the therapy of infectious diseases, triggered by particularly concerning gram-negative Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter spp. (ESKAPE) pathogens. Designated as "priority" 2017, these bacteria continue to pose significant threat 2024, during worldwide SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, where coinfections with ESKAPE members contributed worsened patient outcomes. The declining effectiveness current treatments against pathogens has led an increased disease burden increase mortality rates globally. This review explores sophisticated mechanisms driving AMR bacteria, focusing on Key bacterial contributing include limitations drug uptake, production antibiotic-degrading enzymes, alterations target sites, enhanced efflux systems. Abstract The genus Enterobacter belongs to the ESKAPE group, which includes Enterococcus faecium , Staphylococcus aureus Klebsiella pneumoniae Acinetobacter baumannii Pseudomonas aeruginosa and spp . This group is characterized by development of resistance various antibiotics. In recent years, cloacae ( E. ) has emerged as a clinically important pathogen responsible for wide range healthcare-associated illnesses. Identifying species can be challenging due their similar phenotypic characteristics. emergence multidrug-resistant also significant problem in healthcare settings. Therefore, our study aimed identify differentiate using Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization–time flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) fast precise proteomic analytical technique. We tested hospital-acquired isolates that produce Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) against commonly used antibiotics treating urinary tract infections (UTIs). total 189 from 2300 urine samples patients with UTIs investigation. employed culturing techniques, well BD Phoenix™ automated identification system (Becton, Dickinson) Analytical Profile Index (API) biochemical isolates. Out isolates, Phoenix correctly identified 180 (95.24%) while API 165 (87.30%) However, accurately 185 (98.95%) score 2.00 or higher. We aimed to determine the trend of antimicrobial resistance pattern pathogens isolated in samples collected from patients hospitalized intensive care unit (ICU) selected periods before and after COVID-19. A retrospective study bacterial was performed on 1267 patients. Positive culture data 1695 pre-COVID-19 period 1562 post-COVID-19 were obtained. The most frequently bacteria both Staphylococcus aureus Klebsiella spp. rates Significantly increased against colistin (0.38% 20.51%), gentamicin (44.62% 64.85%), aztreonam (56.35% 3.60%). There a significant increase rate for E. coli strains (4.69% 32.46%) Acinetobacter sp. (3.37% 18.09%). More than 50% MRSA, with statistically increases doxycycline (40.08% 51.72%), linezolid (0.22% 3.13%), rifampicin (53.16% 64.93%), teicoplanin (26.31% 53.40%). revealed significantly increasing Gram-negative certain antibiotics, including those used only cases where there are no other therapeutic options.

Background: Acinetobacter baumannii is a major cause of nosocomial infections in critically ill patients, and strains are frequently multidrug resistant (MDR). This study aimed to characterize 45 clinical A. isolates collected different periods the main hospital Molise Region, central Italy. Methods: Antimicrobial susceptibility was evaluated using an automated system, PCRs were performed detect resistance-associated genes. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) carried out with AscI ApaI, Multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) according Oxford scheme. Results: All exhibited MDR profiles, showing total towards colistin. harbored blaOXA-23, blaOXA-51, blaAmpC genes, as well adeB, adeJ, adeG, abeS, soxR. Dendrogram ApaI revealed eleven three clusters, respectively, twenty-three eighteen pulsotypes (Simpson’s index 0.96 0.93), from clearly distinguished. MLST five types, which varied depending on isolation period, ST1720 ST369 prevalent, followed by ST281, ST218, ST513. Conclusions: Molecular characterization enables identification distinct patterns over time, underscoring its usefulness for improving epidemiological surveillance combating antimicrobial resistance. provides previously unavailable information regarding circulating examined setting.

ESKAPE pathogens (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter spp.) are major contributors nosocomial infections AMR. We evaluated the epidemiology AMR prevalence of at University Hospital in Palermo between January 2018 July 2023, analyzing factors associated with mortality patients positive blood cultures. Microbiological data from all specimen types were collected using Business Intelligence system Biwer, excluding duplicates. assessed trends isolates time. Clinical hospital discharge forms used evaluate ESKAPE-positive Differences non-blood examined. A total 11,607 specimens 4916 analyzed. Most admitted Internal Medicine (19.4%), ICU (13.2%), General Surgery (9.9%). Additionally, 21.5% ICU-admitted patients. Blood cultures accounted for 14.3% specimens, urine 25.3%, respiratory secretions 22.1%, skin mucosal swabs 20.9%. The increased progressively, peaking 2021. vancomycin-resistant E. faecium was 19.4%, a significant upward trend, while oxacillin-resistant S. aureus 35.0%, showing decline. A. baumannii exhibited high antibiotics tested except colistin cefiderocol. Carbapenemase 55.0% K. 20.4% P. 4.6% spp. aeruginosa showed decrease meropenem resistance. pneumoniae bloodstream linked higher risk.
