Abstract The use of context to facilitate the processing words is recognized as a hallmark skilled reading. This capability also hypothesized change with older age because cognitive changes across lifespan. However, research investigating this issue using eye movements or event-related potentials (ERPs) has produced conflicting findings. Specifically, whereas eye-movement studies report larger effects for than younger adults, ERP findings suggest that are diminished delayed readers. Crucially, these contrary may reflect methodological differences, including unnatural sentence displays in research. To address limitations, we used coregistration technique record (EMs) and fixation-related (FRPs) simultaneously while 44 young adults (18–30 years) 30 (65+ read sentences containing target word was strongly weakly predicted by prior context. Eye-movement analyses were conducted over all data (full EM dataset) only matching FRPs. FRPs analysed capture early later components 70–900 ms following fixation-onset on words. Both datasets showed main group context, full dataset revealed adults. We argue that, methods limitations earlier research, our experiment provides compelling complementary evidence from rely more integrate during

Abstract In spite of the reduced visual acuity, parafoveal information plays an important role in natural reading. However, competing models on reading disagree whether words are previewed parafoveally at lexical level. We examined how readers process content and function words in sentence comprehension with ERPs. During reading, the brain is confronted with many relevant objects at once. But does lexical processing occur for multiple words simultaneously? Cognitive science has yet to answer this prominent question. Recently it been argued that issue warrants supplementing field's traditional toolbox (response times, eye-tracking) neuroscientific techniques (EEG, fMRI). Indeed, according OB1-reader model, upcoming need not impact oculomotor behavior per se, but parallel of these must nonetheless be reflected in neural activity. Here we combined eye-tracking EEG, time-locking window interest fixation on target sentence reading. fixations, manipulated identity subsequent word so posed either a syntactically legal or illegal continuation sentence. In line previous research, measures were unaffected. Yet, syntax impacted potentials as early 100 ms after onset. Visual search is ubiquitous in daily life and has attracted substantial research interest over the past decades. Although accumulating evidence suggested complex neurocognitive processes underlying visual search, neural communication across brain regions remains poorly understood. The present work aimed to fill this gap by investigating functional networks of fixation-related potential (FRP) during task. Multi-frequency electroencephalogram (EEG) were constructed from 70 university students (male/female = 35/35) using FRPs time-locked target non-target fixation onsets, which determined concurrent eye-tracking data. Then graph theoretical analysis (GTA) a data-driven classification framework employed quantitatively reveal divergent reorganization between FRPs. We found distinct network architectures mainly delta theta bands. More importantly, we achieved accuracy 92.74% for discrimination both global nodal features. In line with results GTA, that integration corresponding significantly differed, while features contributing most performance primarily resided occipital parietal-temporal areas. Interestingly, revealed females exhibited higher local efficiency band when focusing on summary, these provide some first quantitative insights into interaction patterns process.
