This paper analyses the effects of environmental flows on water quality within a highly regulated basin, focusing Turia River basin in eastern Iberian Peninsula. Through management and models, series simulations were conducted, introducing variations outflows Loriguilla reservoir to evaluate different flow scenarios quality, particularly at location intake for supply Valencia. Three analyzed, alongside an alternative scenario, considering their implications reliability demand. The findings this paper, nitrate (NO3−) concentration evolution, highlight influence minimum e-flow regimes basin. These results suggest that while modifying current regime can lead some improvements concentrations Valencia point, primary cause high is attributed irrigation return pre-existing contamination aquifer. analysis offers valuable insights into complexities basins, emphasizing need multi-faceted approach address diverse factors influencing demand reliability.

Predicting land-use and land-management effects on stream river biota is an important aspect of land-water management, yet there are no collations what methods available to carry out those assessments nor guidance which use. This paper summarises a range with examples their applications, comments strengths weaknesses, evaluates them against set criteria, provides method selection. Assessment include empirical statistical mechanistic models, Bayesian networks, likelihood–consequence risk assessments, scoring methods, hybrid some can be informed by expert elicitation. An evaluation matrix for indicated that single ideal, selection needs carefully consider factors such as the physico-chemical stressor or biotic impact interest, intended stakeholders, scales assessment. One emergent principle separation relationships between land use stressors from biota, alternative could used. A tiered approach recommended, whereby simple low resource time requirements applied first, followed more sophisticated selected aspects if needed. There need ready-made at screening level, well development new address remaining gaps multiple stressors.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate fish habitat suitability by simulating hydrodynamic and water quality factors using integration model SWAT HEC-RAS models considering time-series analysis. 2.9 km reach the Bokha stream selected for evaluation Zacco platypus , a dominant species reach. Streamflow at inlet were simulated with subsequent cross-sectional velocity depth along temperature dissolved oxygen (DO) estimated HEC-RAS. linked calibrated validated 10 years period from 2013 2022. aquatic assessed weighted usable area (WUA) analysis conducted continuity habitat. Overall, simulation accuracy evaluated as satisfactory or higher in all influence indicators. High appeared be most influential indicator which impact particularly pronounced shallow streamflow areas during hot summer seasons. identified 28% threshold WUA/WUA max equivalent 0.48 m³/s, minimum ecological mitigate rise. proposed method linking watershed-stream could serve useful tool management.
