Recent research identified 2022 as being the year of lowest seasonal April–May–June–July (AMJJ) observed streamflow for Po River Basin (PRB) in past two centuries. Expanding upon this research, we applied filters (2-year to 30-year filters) AMJJ and late 20th 21st century displaying extreme drought. In study, introduce PALEO-RECON, an automated reconstruction tool developed leverage tree ring-based proxies streamline regression processes. Using reconstructed streamflow, applying traditional techniques using a nested approach which 30-, 40-, 50-year windows within ~200-year record (1807 2022) were evaluated capture uncertainty. Focusing on (2000 2022), while several droughts ~2000-year paleo may have exceeded 2000 drought, recent PRB drought ending was 23-year period approximately 500 years, acknowledging that uncertainty increases move further back time. When examining records, deficit surplus periods evaluated, focusing potential “whiplash” between pluvial events. We increase frequency whiplash events, be associated with changing climate.
