Erythroid cells are the most abundant in human body. In addition to their established function gas-transportation, erythroid at various stages of differentiation have recently been shown immunomodulatory roles. Red blood may serve as modulators innate and adaptive immunity, while immature counterparts, CD71 + (CECs) important functions contexts. CECs cord placenta, where they contribute fetomaternal tolerance. also accumulate patients with infections, tumors, anemia, effectively suppress T by producing high levels arginase, reactive oxygen species, programmed death-ligand 1, transforming growth factor β, and/or interleukin-10. Here, we systematically summarize propose some potential therapeutic applications based on characteristics.
