The Gaoligong Mountain Range in Yunnan Province, China, is characterized by its large variation elevation and topography, together with wide latitudinal range, resulting extremely high levels of biodiversity. Studies show that the amphibian diversity largely underestimated, especially south. During herpetological surveys 2023 2024, three specimens Leptobrachella were collected from mountain at Tongbiguan Provincial Nature Reserve. Subsequent morphological comparisons a phylogenetic reconstruction revealed these belonged to previously unknown morphologically distinct lineage , which we formally describe. Our discovery brings number species genus 108, 44 occur seven on Range. This result confirms underestimated Range, Reserve, where multiple sympatric congeneric occur, including four five putative new Xenophrys Polypedates . These findings also highlight need for future research investigate mechanisms syntopic coexistence.

A new leaf litter toad, Leptobrachella yongshunensis sp. nov. , is described on the basis of morphological, acoustic, and molecular data in this study. The species was distributed Xiaoxi National Nature Reserve, Yongshun County, Xiangxi Tujia Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, China. Phylogenetical analysis revealed that sister L. wulingensis (p-distance 0.019 16s rRNA gene, p-distance 0.073 COI gene). duration advertisement call 194.2 ± 6.7 ms, mean dominant frequency first note 3.885 0.066 kHz, second 3.914 0.052 kHz. can be distinguished from its congers by following morphological characters: snout-vent length (SVL) 27.2–28.9 males, SVL 26.2–31.6 females; black spots flanks; toes webbing rudimentarily; narrow fringes toes; creamy white ventral body with indistinct speckling at margins; dorsal sparse large warts, dense little wart grains, longitudinal ridges; head width greater than length; tibiotarsal articulation reaching to anterior edge eye; brick-red color surface; upper parts iris bright coppery life. We still supplemented gene for further research. discovery not only enhances diversity Wuling Mountains, but also suggests hidden area.

The uplift of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and Indochina extrusion are two most prominent consequences India–Asia collision. These geologic events greatly altered topography drainage patterns that, in turn, affected regional climate, landscape evolution biodiversity. Despite this, little is known about how orogeny climate affect biodiversity, especially dynamics diversification, including origins, peaks endings. Here, we performed phylogenetic biogeographic analyses Leptobrachella distributed Southeast Asia southern China, based on mitochondrial 16S ribosomal RNA. results revealed that may be roughly divided into Clade I from south Indo-Burma II central northern China. A new species of the Asian leaf litter toad genus Leptobrachella from central south China is described. Molecular phylogenetic analyses, based on mitochondrial 16S rRNA and nuclear RAG1 gene sequences indicated as an independent clade in genus. The could be distinguished its congeners by a combination following characters: body medium size (SVL 29.2–34.2 mm 15 adult males 34.4–43.1 seven females); distinct black spots present flanks; toes rudimentary webbed, with wide lateral fringes; ventral belly white nebulous brown speckling ventrolateral skin dorsum shagreened fine tiny granules or short ridges; iris copper above, silver below; heels overlapped when thighs are positioned at right angles to body; tibia-tarsal articulation reaches middle eye; dorsal surface tadpole semi-transparent light brown, tail absent, keratodont row formula I: 3+3/2+2: I; call series basically consist repeated long calls, dominant frequency (5093 ± 412 Hz).

A new species of Leaf Litter Toad, Leptobrachella shimentaina sp. nov. , is described from the Shimentai and Luokeng nature reserves northern Guangdong Province, southern China. The taxon can be distinguished all recognized congeners by a combination discrete morphological character state differences relating to its small body size (SVL 26.4–28.9 mm in six adult males, 30.1 30.7 two females); number apparently fixed color pattern (including eye coloration features dorsal, ventral, dorsolateral surfaces head, body, limbs, ventrum); characteristics external phenotype (the skin texture dorsum ventrum, presence supra-axillary ventrolateral glands, wide dermal fringes rudimentary webbing on toes, uninterrupted longitudinal ridges under toes). Two samples this previously were proposed as representing new, unnamed species. We now substantiate claim providing diagnostic comparisons differences. In addition, we also discuss taxonomic uncertainty surrounding identity congeners, L. chishuiensis purpurus which interpret indicative inflation species-rich subfamily Megophryidae.
