Conventional hydrogen production processes, which often involve fossil raw materials, emit significant amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This study critically evaluates feasibility using sugarcane biomass as an energy source to produce green hydrogen. In 2023/2024 harvest, Brazil, world’s largest producer, processed approximately 713.2 million metric tons sugarcane. yielded 45.68 sugar and 29.69 billion liters first-generation ethanol, equivalent 0.0416 ethanol per kilogram A systematic literature review was conducted Scopus Clarivate Analytics Web Science, resulting in assessment 335 articles. The has identified seven potential biohydrogen methods, including two direct approaches from second-generation five integrated bioenergy systems. Experimental data indicate that can yield 594 MJ ton biomass, with additional recovery lignin combustion (1705 ton). Moreover, advances electrocatalytic reforming plasma-driven have demonstrated high conversion efficiencies, addressing key technical barriers. results highlight Brazil’s strategic integrate within its existing infrastructure. By leveraging for hydrogen, country contribute significantly global transition sustainable while enhancing security.

Developing clean and renewable energy instead of the ones related to hydrocarbon resources has been known as one different ways guarantee reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Geothermal systems native hydrogen exploration could represent an opportunity diversify global matrix lower carbon-related All these natural sources require a well be drilled for its access and/or extractions, similar petroleum industry. The main focuses this technical–scientific contribution research are (i) evaluate matrix; (ii) show context over years future perspectives on geothermal exploration; (iii) present analyze importance developing technologies drilling process optimization aiming at accessing resources. In 2022, was composed mainly nonrenewable such oil, gas, coal, where combustion fossil fuels produced approximately 37.15 billion tons CO2 in same year. 2023, USD 1740 invested globally reduce emissions combat context, currently, about 353 power units operation worldwide with capacity 16,335 MW. addition, globally, there 35 under pre-construction (project phase), 93 already being constructed, recently, 45 announced. Concerning hydrogen, industry announced 680 large-scale project proposals, valued 240 direct investment by 2030. Brazil, company Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) will invest coming nearly 4 million involving generation, since (oil systems, among others) achieved through wells, document presents contextualization social interest.
