During the COVID-19 pandemic, stay-at-home restrictions significantly changed people’s daily lives around world. Opportunity and strain theories predict this would lead to an increase in intimate partner abuse (IPA), including homicide (IPH). This paper applies alternative theoretical framework—situational action theory (SAT)—to explain mixed findings regarding changes IPA unexpected (a lack of) IPH. It is argued that SAT may contribute explaining impact of on IPH three important ways: 1. by addressing fact motivation necessary but not sufficient for better specifying how translates into IPH; 2. people perceive different alternatives why some come see as acceptable alternatives; 3. exposure affects differently shaped activity fields and, turn, their perceptions choices.
