This article explores the integration of migration objectives into EU development funds, analyzing how financial commitments targeting have evolved since 2000 and their (mis)alignment with deterrence paradigm. Using new MigFund dataset, study shows uneven growth in migration-related funding across different areas. While for border control forced return increased, protection measures seen most significant rise, not all areas become more restrictive. The analysis identifies levels restrictiveness funds discusses strategies actors used to challenge or reinforce root causes paradigms.
