In the European Union, peatlands are largely drained for agriculture resulting in significant environmental damage and CO2 emissions. Rewetting is seen as an effective tool to reduce emissions, but drainage-based agricultural practices locked-in. Instead of describing scaling up on wet peatlands, this paper examines termination use exnovation problem. Drawing sustainability transitions research, we suggest a conceptual perspective systemic changes towards sustainable agriculture. We propose governance based four dimensions: discourse, policy instruments, agency, justice. assess existing recommendations government peatland rewetting Germany terms governance, highlight strengths omissions. The approach provides new decision-makers, while also offers promising avenue further research within framework.
